Congratulations, Don!
In May 2007 Don Cohen was nominated for the 2008 Excellence in Education Award from the State University of New York-Albany Alumni Association. This announcement came in December 2007: “On behalf of the University at Albany Alumni Association, we'd like to congratulate you on being chosen as a 2008 Excellence in Education Award recipient. We hope you will join us at the 2008 Excellence Awards Gala where we will recognize your outstanding accomplishments and those of fellow alumni and friends of the University...”
Joe and I could not be more happy for Don. He and his Calculus By and For Young People - Worksheets book has changed the way we learn and teach our students in such a profound way. We often think of how different math class would have been for us if we had had Don's worksheets when we were kids.
We have been able to help struggling students with grades so low they had nearly given up and guide them to success that they did not think was possible. Because of what we have learned from Don, our mathematical creativity abounds. For over a decade, we continue to come up with new explanations that seem effortless to us and our students love it, too.
None of this would have been possible without Don, his wife Marilyn, and his worksheet book. Don is our educational giant, upon whose shoulder's he encourages all to stand. We eagerly follow in his footsteps.
Congratulations again, Don! Thank you for your methods, everything you have taught and continue to teach us.
